This was not a live-action show like most of the rest of the other shows listed on this site, but it is my favorite cartoon of all time & so worthy of a mention here on my site. Robotech was a precursor to the now famous Gundams only these guys had something even cooler - a third transformation from plane/batteliod/gerwalk or guardian (a half plane, half battleoid) mode. Also in the 3rd season they had motorcycles that transformed into battle armor wich was way cool.

The first season was about how the Space Battle Fortress - SDF-1 crashed on earth & we adapted the technology into Robotech - some 50 foot tall aliens called the Zentradi came looking for the SDF-1 & a battle ensued... Caugh up in the battle was Rick Hunter a stunt pilot who winds up becomming an Admiral by the 3rd season - His story was a love triangle between himself, Linn Minmei a singer who became famous during the course of the show, and Lisa Hayes an officer in the Robotech army - Rick winds up marrying Lisa after a long time of being undecided about who he wants...

The 2nd season was about the story of a hybrid human-zentradi - Dana Sterling (The daughter of Max Sterling, Rick hunter's friend & a zentradi that shrunk herself to spy on the humans then defected ) & her infantry crew. Their Hovertanks could transform into a Mortar & a battleoid. They met & befriended Zor Prime - a clone of the alien who created the SDF-1.

I found this movie that has one Maya Sterling as commander of skull sqaud! Also Scott Benard & Ariel from the 3rd season is in it along with an cameo of an elderly Admiral Rick Hunter! Not to mention Bowie's (from the 2nd season) dad (most likey Claudia Grant's brother) is the captain of a spaceship & Louie (also from the 2nd season) is his right hand man. I wish they explained how he lived through the end of the 2nd season & got to the expiditionary force.
I found this movie also, called Robotech the Untold Story - the star
looks a lot like Rick & Rolf Emmerson (Bowie's godfather) is in it.
I found that Robotech had a comic also.
The trippyest thing I learned about Robotech is that it was origonally 3 seperate cartoons that had nothing to do with each other in Japan & the 2nd show (Southern Cross) was incomplete.
The 1st show, Macross was such a hit that when they tried to make a sequel to Robotech the Japanese artists made Exedore & Breetai look nothing like themselves.
I heard they planned on having 65 episodes of Robotech II The Sentinels but it fizzled out. The movie/ pilot of it I saw contained the wedding of Rick Hunter & Lisa Hayes.
